The bouquet above is for a kind stranger I never met.

A few years ago, I received a call, the Friday before Labor Day Weekend. It was my bank calling, letting me know that my ATM card was available for pick-up. Upon hearing this, I searched my purse, wallet, and pockets because I was certain I had the card in my possession.

Unfortunately, I didn’t.

According to the customer service representive, someone found my ATM Card in the machine and dropped it off.

To this day, I am still astounded by the  goodness displayed in that one person. They could have done so many things with that card since it also acts as a debit card, but they didn’t. They could have shredded it or placed in the mail as we’re directed to do. Instead, they chose to drive approximately two miles away, park their car, and enter a bank in an effort to help me out, a complete stranger.

How special. For them and for me.

I’ve always wanted to thank that person, whomever they are. Not just for returning my card, but for helping me remember that everyone isn’t selfish, self-centered, or out for their own personal gain. Some people, probably most people, believe in doing the right thing and contributing goodness to the world.

Just like my fond memory, an Adrian woman is still inspired by an act of kindness she received years ago. To read her story, please click on the link below.

Wow, how nice! I would like to piggy-back off of this piece. I’d like to use these same beautiful flowers and give them to all of the people who work in public service…your efforts are not in vain.

Danielle Says:

I gladly accept! I’m sure others in public service would appreciate them as well. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a day set aside to honor these individuals.

This post reminds me, I found someone’s passport (along with a photo CD and dollar bill), in a Taco Bell restaurant 2 weeks ago in a city 2 hours away when picking up relative from the airport. I meant to return it to the DMV or state building when we dropped them off the other day, but forgot. I’ll have to mail the items in soon.

Keeping in the theme of kindness, here’s a bittersweet story of corporate kindness from Pixar animation studios I read this morning that I think is worth sharing. It managed a few tears from me, and that’s no small feat:

Hello there!

There still are good and kind people out there who really DO want to do what’s right…

I have never forgotten that.

It could be one good reason why I love being a minister… the opportunity to encounter goodness…

sylviahubbard1 Says:

we should all have an addiction to randon acts of kindness .

They not only make others feel good to have done to them, but they are good to do and good to hear about.

Danielle Says:

I think you’re right, we should be addicted to random acts of kindness, but I don’t think most people are. I wonder if we’re too busy or selfish to understand its benefits.
